PARENT COMMISSIONING
We believe God has designed the home to be the primary place where faith is nurtured and the gospel is lived out; therefore, as a part of our church's commitment to Family Discipleship, we are framing intentional rhythms we call time, moments, and milestones.
One of the milestones is our Parent Commissioning (often understood to be baby dedication). This milestone marks an important step in the life of a family and our church.
What Parent Commissioning Is (and is not):
Parent commissioning is not baptism as we believe baptism is reserved for those who personally profess repentance and faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We pray that every child represented by the parent(s) being commissioned would one day stir the baptism waters following their personal profession of faith.
Parent commissioning is a milestone. In this moment, parents publicly acknowledge that their child belongs to the Lord, and they commit themselves to raising their child(ren) in the fear and admonition of the Lord.

Disciple-making begins in the home and flourishes in the life of the local church.

Steps to Participate:
Because this is a meaningful and intentional moment for the parents and the church (people of God) together, we ask parents to complete a few steps before participating:
-
Church Membership: Parents must be members of CBC in good standing, as membership reflects our shared commitment to walk together in the discipleship of our children.
-
Participate in the Family Discipleship Workshop: Discipleship. Parents must attend this class (offered April 26, 2026 & June 14, 2026) to better understand their biblical role as the primary disciple-makers of their children and learn practical tools for cultivating faith in the home.
-
Child must be 0-24 months old. As we begin this new practice in the life of our church, this age range provides a wise and manageable starting point for us.
