Letters from Missionaries | Vol. 18

Ron Bigalke, Capitol Commission | March 1, 2021

Scripture tells us we should make “petition, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for everyone, for kings and all those who are in authority” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Imagine what impact the gospel could make in our country as more of our governing officials are transformed and our legislation is informed by Biblical principles!

CBC partners with Ron Bigalke through Capitol Commission, a ministry that comes alongside the local church to Biblically encourage and equip those working in our government. Our hope in sharing this update is that you would pray for Ron and join him in his work through prayer and ministry to our government, celebrate the life-changing power of the gospel, and consider how God is inviting you to join in His global mission from our neighbors to the nations.

Dear CBC,

Thank you for your prayers and generous support with Capitol Commission, which enables this work to continue and advance for God’s glory. Capitol Commission is committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ and promoting the biblical mandate to pray for those in the capitol communities throughout the United States and the world. Our mission is to reach the Capitol community for Christ, one person at a time, to disciple him or her, and to prepare them for a lifetime of ministry, wherever God chooses to place them. We are committed to proclaiming gospel hope and spiritual strength for government leaders.

I have now been serving more than a decade as the Georgia state minister for Capitol Commission, and begin the current legislative session as the official (honorary) Senate chaplain (a position that was created for Capitol Commission with near unanimous sponsorship). The Apostle Paul said of his ministry: “a wide door for effective ministry has opened to me and there are many adversaries” (1 Cor 16:9). I continue to be amazed with how God has grown the ministry of Capitol Commission “for effective ministry” and, thankfully, there are not “many adversaries” yet there are some. I frequently tell legislators that “a wide door” and “many adversaries” almost seem to accompany one another. There seems to be a law that spiritual opportunities are always accompanied by opposition when pursuing the eternal purposes and will of God. The truth of 1 Corinthians 16:9 is important to remember because it just might explain some of the present spiritual challenges. Please pray that our Lord will help Capitol Commission overcome some present opposition, and also pray for our legislators who are seeking to honor the Lord in their decisions.

Some of the wide doors include a large freshman class. There are many new members to meet, and the resulting conversations will be both in terms of relational discipleship and evangelism. Zoom has been immensely useful for personal discipleship in addition to using it for teaching Bible studies for those who cannot join our in-person opportunities for Bible study in the Statehouse. We are shining the light of Jesus into Capitol communities with Bible-teaching, discipleship, and outreach for state legislators, statewide leaders, staff, and lobbyists. I continue proclaiming the Word of God to the most influential people in our state (and some in our nation). Truly, it is a blessing to be able to share gospel hope and spiritual strength for government leaders. Many have testified to changed lives as they have come to know and grow with the Living Word (Jesus Christ) and the Written Word (the Holy Bible) through the outreach of Capitol Commission.

To expand our ministry outreach, Capitol Commission is trying a new area of media. Presently, we are on Overcomers TV every day and have a 30-second commercial playing 24 times a day. Our YouTube channel has come to life. The content of the recent “Gospel Advance” presented an open invitation for people to know who we are, what we do, and why! You can view our “Gospel Advance” video on YouTube at https://youtu.be/_KDD06ZsRYU. Pray that our Lord would bless the ministry of his Word among our Capitol community.

I remain grateful for your partnership with us! Please pray for our ministry that we may see Jesus Christ exalted as King of kings in the heart and mind of our leaders. Pray for spiritual empowerment and strength for me, in addition to boldness and courage, during the present legislative session and also for those members who trust in our Lord and Savior. Please use our prayer site – www.pray1Tim2.org – to uphold our state’s leaders. Pray for God to bless the proclamation and dissemination of his Word. Please give me a call or send an email (information online at www.capitolcom.org/georgia) to let me know of your desire to make a difference in the lives of our leaders.
