Letters from Missionaries | Vol. 16

Dean and Wendy Failor | December 14, 2020

In this season of Advent, I can’t help but think about the billions who have never heard the name of Jesus. Those who yearn for a savior, for someone to right every wrong and restore everything broken in this world– but don’t yet know He has come! Those who have no hope for His second coming because they don’t even know He first came as a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger to live a perfect life and pay the price for our sins, that they too may know Him and live.

We recently received this letter from CBC partners Dean and Wendy Failor. What a sweet reminder that God is on the move, and what a sweet picture of the Christmas story come to life. Hurt, sad, lost, skeptic– no one is so far that He can’t reach them with His message of peace and hope through Jesus Christ.

Merry Christmas, CBC! May this story encourage you to pray for our partners, celebrate the work of the Gospel, and consider how God is inviting you to join in His global mission. And may the message of Christmas encourage your hearts with peace and hope, too.

On March 15, 2011 protests in Syria against President Bashar-al-Asaad were met with a brutal crackdown which led to a civil war now entering its tenth year. Nearly 500,000 people have died, while 6.3 million people have been internally displaced, while 6.0 million have been scattered across the globe. Nearly 1.8 million of these refugees fled to a nearby country, where they currently make up nearly 10% of the population. Of this number, only 20% live in camps, while 80% reside in urban areas.

TeachBeyond has a team in this country, sharing the Gospel and making disciples through community outreach and transformational education. This past summer our team entered into a partnership with another organization focused on reaching refugees. Our team is providing English language education programs in a cultural center. One worker reported meeting an older woman who suffered from back issues which caused her great difficulty in walking and bending. This worker shared her faith in Jesus Christ and offered to pray for the woman. She agreed, and following the prayer, exclaimed that she felt relief from her pain for the first time in years. An older man and his two daughters had met several Christians. The daughters remarked how the Christians were always happy and hopeful in a sad and despairing circumstance. Soon afterward, the man reported having a dream in which a God-like figure raised another figure from an altar of sacrifice. To him both of the men seemed divine. “What does this mean?” he asked the Christians. They replied that they believed God was revealing himself, and his son, Jesus, the Messiah. Soon afterward he had another dream in which a voice told him, “Read about Paul!” “Who is Paul?” he asked the Christians. They then gave him an audio Bible and are taking him through the Scriptures.

Across Asia and the Middle East, God is drawing people to himself as Jesus is lifted up. Thank you for your generous giving, which allows TeachBeyond members to be present as co-laborers together with Christ in some of the darkest parts of our world. This Christmas, join us in prayer for the lost and those called to go to them and share the message of peace and hope in Jesus Christ.

Thankful for each of you, and for the ministry of Community Bible Church!
